An Anthropologie recipe

A friend online,  Melissa Ann Marie, that she was making a perfume roller.  She said she used 3 drops each of the following oils to achieve the an Anthropologie perfume when mixed with fractionated coconut oil.

I wasn't in the mood to create a perfume roller. I wanted a peaceful diffuser blend.

An Anthropologie Diffuser Blend, I only used 2 drops of each:

Idaho Blue Spruce

Northern Lights Black Spruce

Pine

Tangerine

Lime

Ylang Ylang

Geranium

Delicious and worthy of the rainbow that was hitting my aroma diffuser while I was at work in the craft room today.

For Wisdom like Yoda

My eldest is taking the ISTEP, a standardized test for his class.
Normally, he doesn't get too stressed out about this, but he is on the Spectrum, and sometimes he surprises me.  This morning as he took off for school, he asked me to make him a rollon.

Clarity is an Amazing blend for the brain, it has Basil, Rosemary, Peppermint, Cardamom, Coriander,  Geranium, Bergamot, Lemon, Ylang Ylang, Jasmine, Roman Chamomile, and Palmarosa.  It's a great blend, and we all love it for focus. I blend Vetiver into it too.  Vetiver is a strong sap, so it must be warmed before using, or it won't drop.  I've pulled the drop reducer, and it still wouldn't budge.  Well, I got smart this time, I put it down my bra to warm it while I took my littlest to Preschool.  It worked swimmingly, but instead of warming for 10 minutes, I got distracted, and forgot about it for 3 1/2 hours. Ha Ha!  Squirrel!
Meanwhile, it dripped out just fine, being body temperature. And I was able to find some Star Wars duct tape around the house.  So I put a slab on it.  The picture I cut, just happened to have Yoda on it.  Yoda is always a big hit.

For Wisdom like Yoda:
30 drops Clarity
10 drops Vetiver
Fill the rest of the way with V6, which is absorbed quickly and doesn't leave stains.

Foot Rollon for Fathers

I made this great rollon for my Dad for his Birthday.   He's been needing some support in his feet, and I found this great recipe online.  I liked it so much, I made one for myself. I keep it in my nightstand, so that when I wake and my feet need a little attention, I can roll this across the arches.  It's Great!

The Kristin

I have sons. 3 sons. I don't get girly Time or a girly fix very often.  So it's a rare Blessing for me get Girl time!  My friend Kathleen needed me to borrow her girls while she went to teacher training at her new gig at the girls' school.  We painted our nails.   We watched movies.  I still had Jacob but he was so content to have the girls around, the girls were much more mellow.   I created a facial wash for Emily, who in her early hormone state, needed a good face wash.   So I put a Tablespoon of YL Orange Blossom Face Wash in a small foaming pump bottle and filled the rest with water.  So now Emily had a great face wash, and I gave her a bottle of Tea Tree which I've used as a spot treatment.  Sarah was given her nail polish to take home.  But for Kristin, I didn't know what to do.  She didn't quite have the hormone issues that Em had, nor did she want her nails done with anything but clear.  But she's a Girly Girl like me.  So I decided to make her something.  We decided to make a perfume.  I have some small 5 mL rollon bottles.  So I took her in to look at my stash of oils, and pick something sweet, and we'd make a perfume.  She picked 3 scents she liked, and we put them together with a carrier of sunflower oil.   It was Awesome!

We ended up using:
10 drops of Joy
10 drops of Jade Lemon
5 drops of Coriander

I love how it turned out. The Kristin is a wonderfully refreshing sweet perfume of a blend.  That kid is a genius!

Happy Air Freshener

I have a friend with cats, who blew through her Lemon and Purification in her starter kit.   I was looking for something that may help continue to deodorize her home.  I came across this recipe in my EOPR section on Diffusing.  And I LOVE it!   I happily diffused some myself, and then made her a sample and sent it off yesterday!

In an old Lavender 5 mL bottle, I put

20 drops Lavender
10 drops Lemon
6 drops Bergamot
5 drops Lime
5 drops Grapefruit

I put 3-4 drops in the diffuser, but you could use more.  Diffuse it neat, or put in a spray bottle with 1 cup of water for a deodorizing mist . It's a refreshing citrus that I think you all will Love!

Rainy Days

We've had a ton of rain the last few weeks, especially in the last few days.

My poor dog has been very upset.  Princess gets upset when it storms.  We use Lavender and Peace & Calming in the diffuser for her.  But this past month, in my ER, I bought her some T-Away.  It was described to me as being Valor AND Peace & Calming for dogs.  Not surprising, it has All the Ingredients of Valor II and Peace and Calming, for a fraction of the price!  It's even prediluted with fractionated coconut oil so that it won't bother her skin.   And it has Tangerine, Lavender, Royal Hawaiian Sandlewood, German Chamomile, Frankincense, Valerian, Ylang Ylang, Black Spruce, Geranium, Davana, Orange, Angelica, Rue, Helichrysum, Hyssop, Spanish Sage, Lime, Patchouli, Coriander, Blue Tansy, Bergamot, Rose, Lemon, Jasmine, Roman Chamomile, and Palmarosa.
We opted to give T-Away a Try.
The first time I broke it out was when she woke me in the middle of the night last weekend, panting and licking her chops, she was nervous.  At 3 am!  I put a drop between her shoulder blades, and she was snoring by 4 am.  Mommy needed a little something more to get back to sleep.  The next evening we were slammed with more thunderstorms, so before I even went to bed, I loaded her up, one drop on my hand massaged behind her ears and wiped down her sides.  Within minutes, before I even finished writing about it on FB, she got up off the couch and put herself to bed!  Storms be darned!

This is a dog who approves of T-Away!

But it hasn't stopped raining.  My floor is covered in muddy footprints. My backyard is a swamp.
I couldn't take any more. I had to resort to making my own Sunshine with my Essential Oils.

Sunshine Blend in the Diffuser

5 drops Grapefruit
5 drops Orange
3 drops Bergamot
2 drops Frankincense
1 drop Joy
1 drop Release

Sunshine Roll-on

I hosted a Make-n-Take Class this weekend.  And I made this Roll-on Recipe to combat all the winter dreary feelings. I miss seeing the sun this time of year.  So why not put our own sunshine in a bottle?!  I received this recipe from my upline Leader Val.  I made one for myself, and I LOVE it!
 I hope you do too!

A Wonderful Sugar Scrub

Renewing Sugar Scrub

1 1/4 cup sugar       (I just use regular granulated sugar from Kroger, but you can kick it up)
1/2 cup grapeseed oil (4 oz) (I get mine at Trader Joe's)
6-12 drops Essential Oils to achieve desired scent

I made this with 4 drops each of Peppermint and Orange.  It's a great brightening combination.   That's also what is shown in the photo below.
Last year, at the end of school, I used Stress Away and made a special sugar scrub for our teachers, to show some of my Thanks.  God Bless Them!
We used 2 small plastic containers, but you can easily use canning or baby food jars.  Not only is it pretty tasty, but it does a wonderful job of exfoliating my tootsies and hands in preparation for warmer weather.

I have tried using my oils to make hand soap, and I love to have good smelling soaps.  Sometimes though these crunchy recipes just don't cut it for me.  This is by far my favorite and most simple recipe for an easy hand soap!

Refreshing Hand Cleanser

1/3 cup Bonners Castille soap
4-5 drops Essential Oil (I used Thieves)
2-3 drops Vitamin E if you are so inclined, it's optional

Add oils and soap to hand foaming pump, and fill the rest of the way with water.

Spring Cleaning

Have you tried our Thieves Cleaner?

Last year, I attended an Event where I had the option of purchasing some discount items, and Thieves cleaner was one of them.  Being available at a discount, Plus not having to pay shipping, I decided to give it a try.

And I learned...  I Love Thieves Cleaner!

This product is so versatile.  You can make  your own cleanser stronger or lighter depending on how much base Thieves cleaner you add to water.   It's that time of year again, time for spring cleaning!   So here's a recipe for Restoring Household Cleaner, it's the base I use to clean everything, messes on floors, counters, it's my everyday cleaner.   The 16 oz. Spray bottle came from https://www.sks-bottle.com/340c/340c/fin67h.html?hc_location=ufi

Restoring Household Cleaner

1 Tbsp Thieves Cleaner
1 7/8 cup water

That's all there is to it.  And it's so pure, that my kids and animals can be exposed to it, and not get sick or anything.   I love that about our products!

The Nose Plays

This morning I went into the bathroom, and found an empty bottle of Raven on my sink.  Funny, I didn't use Raven yesterday, and no one has the cough coughs.  Well, Jacob was feeling iffy.

It turns out my husband made a new nasal rinse concoction this morning, I found the bottle on the edge of his sink. It was an old 5 mL RC bottle, but over the RC was a small label with  "The Nose Plays"  written on it.   It's got RC, Raven, Frank, Lavender, and Rosemary. He called it, "The Nose Plays".

If you haven't seen Ocean's 11 (or 12, or 13) go watch them all.   In Ocean's 13 Matt Damon puts on a  gratuitous fake nose, and argues, The Nose Plays!   We didn't think it would but it did.  Just like we didn't think we'd find a happy blend of Oils to help rinse out Eric's sinuses.  But we did!  He has chronic sinus issues, and his doctor recommended a daily sinus rinse.  He uses a Neil Med squeeze bottle filled with water and a packet of salt so that it ends up being saline.  To this saline, he has been adding 1 drop of RC for his daily flush.  It's not a 'cure', but it has drastically improved his health baseline, thus making his other medications more effective since he doesn't have to use them as often.   He still has issues on occasion, so he's been mixing it up with other oils like Lavender or Rosemary,   but he misses the RC.  So he mixed up his own!  So I wanted to share it with you:

The Nose Plays

25 drops RC
25 drops Raven
10 drops Lavender
 7 drops Rosemary
 7 drops Frankincense

Mix in an empty 5 mL bottle. Then use 1 drop in Saline sinus rinse in a Neti-Pot or Neil Med Sinus Rinse bottle.   Hope the Nose Plays for you all too!

Oily Bug Spray

Welcome Spring!

This is the Recipe for Bug Spray I've used for the last two summers.  Not only does it do a nice job at keeping bugs away.  The only thing I can tell between using this and some other chemical crud is that this gets absorbed in the skin a lot quicker, which makes sense, since this is all natural, so I need to reapply every half hour or so.

This recipe was a combination of things I found online summer 2014, but I didn't realize for a while it uses LLP within it, so sometimes I get relief from applying another layer of spritz.  Summer 2015 I made it in tinier bottles, easier to keep in my purse or hand, for frequent applications while we were outdoors.   Feel free to mix it up, if you don't have Palo Santo, try Citronella.

Thieves Cleaning my Jewelry

As we near the end of March, I noticed that my few pieces of aquamarine jewelry are looking pretty grimy.  Back in the day, when we lived in California, I worked in a jewelry store.  When I left I 'borrowed' a couple tubs of jewelry cleaner.  But it's been a long while since I used it all up, though it was also chock full of chemicals.  One thing I recall about cleaning jewelry from my days at the store, you don't want to use regular soap, because it will leave grime on your stones.  You might get the dirt out, but you'll likely leave behind a film that will detract from the sparkle and natural beauty of the stones.

So I decided to look up a recipe for using Essential Oils, a more natural cleaner to retain the natural beauty of my stones.   Here goes my experiment.

Recipe for Oily Jewelry Cleaner

2 tsp Thieves Cleaner
2 tsp Witch Hazel
1 tsp Baking Soda
3 drops Lemon oil
3 drops Tea Tree oil

Mix in a glass jar, soak jewelry in for a minute or so, then remove, gently brush with toothbrush.  Do not scrub or use on pearls, opals, or turquoise.  Rinse clear with water and pat dry.

If you want to see my Video of using it and creating it, here you go:

Sorry I turned it sideways a quarter of the way through, I'm not a professional videographer.
Photos are more my thing. ;)

Ears and Improvisation

So I have this blend I use, I call it my Snoochie Blend.  It's 10 drops each of Melrose, Purification, and Lavender, and I use it around my ears and sinuses when I'm having congestion.  Last fall, I made a youtube video on what I do with my Snoochie Blend, it's not good, but here you go -

This week caught me off guard.  Jacob woke up Tuesday morning feverish.   Sam had gotten sick the week before, and it was Jacob's turn.  He woke up grumpy, and coughing more than usual.  I didn't like the look he had, so I took him into the Dr. in the afternoon.  He had a fever by naptime. And he had an ear infection.   I didn't see that coming!

So since then I've been trying to smother us all in the Snoochie Blend. But Chris got an ear infection by Thursday too, and apparently, a cough begun by some sort of viral crud can  lead to ear infections.  Oy.  So far, I've been applying to myself and haven't caught it.... yet.  Knock on wood.

Last night was a girl's night out for me, and I was so grateful for it, as I'd been home with sickies all week.  But one of my friend's ear was in need of some support, and she didn't have any Melrose.  So we Improvised:

10 drops Purification
10 drops Lavender
7 drops Melaleuca A.  (Tea Tree)
3 drops Thieves (which has Clove and Rosemary just like Melrose)
2 drops Panaway (since there's Clove but also Helichrysum, which I've been reading lately is great for ear support)

This blend smelled so fabulous.  We put it in a roller, and added some grapeseed carrier oil.  And she applied it around the base of her ear and down to her throat, just like I did in my video.
Within probably half an hour she started to feel some differences, she wasn't sure if it was good things or not.  But this morning, she told me her ear was feeling tons better!  So I wanted to share this Improv Success Story!

Amy's Cuts and Butts Awesomesauce

I went to visit my friend Amy on MLK day with the boys, so that all our kids could play thunderdome while we talked Oils.  One of my favorite recipes that she let me sample was this one. It's Fabulous for EVERYTHING!   This is what they were thinking of when they created the phrase, "awesomesauce".   So when my sister in law Erica and I met up this week for a Make-n-Take session of our own, I wanted to make it.    It was so much to make all kinds of goodies.   This is Amy's Recipe for her homemade neosporin.   We just called it Cuts and Butts.

Amy's Cuts and Butts

1/4 cup coconut oil (the organic solid at room temperature type)
1/4 cup olive oil
1 Tbsp beeswax
20 drops Lavender oil
12 drops Frankincense oil
10 drops Lemon oil
8 drops Tea Tree aka Melaleuca

Melt beeswax in a double boiler.  I use a glass bowl on top of a boiling pot of water.  Once melted add coconut oil, and wait until it melts and is uniform.  Then add the olive oil, mix and remove from heat.  Add Young Living Essential Oils.   Then pour into desired container, it makes ~5 ounces.   We made two baby food jars.

The Bomb Diggity

I have Two Recipes that I'm going to post tonight, to share with you.

The Bomb - I use this first recipe at the first sign of any kind of tickles, or hint of coming illness to boost my immune system.

In a Capsule,  I add drops of Essential Oils:

2 drops Frankincense
4 drops Lemon
4 drops Thieves
4 drops Melaleuca alternifornia (aka Tea Tree)
3 drops Oregano

Then I fill the rest with a carrier oil like Young Living's V-6 blend before capping off the capsule and taking it with water. I like to take it with a little food, because oils absorb better with a little oil or fat.

M* Bomb - This recipe used to be named for a popular painkiller, but I love this more natural rollon.

In a 10 mL (1/3 oz rollon bottle), I add drops of Essential Oils:

10 drops Frankincense
10 drops Balsam Fir
10 drops Copaiba
*7 drops Lemongrass

Fill the rest of the way with a carrier oil like sunflower, almond, or grapeseed oil.  My first time I used olive oil, but I found it to be a little thick for the plastic rollon bottles, so I prefer thinner oils.

* - the Lemongrass is optional, but for my own uses, I like to include it.
